To get a better understanding of secondary metabolites pathways, currently, not only the classical methods in biosynthetic studies (such as in vitro and in vivo incorporation of labelled precursors and enzymatic reactions) are used but also molecular techniques (identification of genes and their functions), tissues and cell cultures, enzymology and others. A comprehensive and integrated view of the metabolic pathways significantly expands the possibilities of progress in plant and microorganisms biotechnology and plant breeding towards natural compounds with commercial potential (e.g., food supplements and additives) andpharmaceutical demand (phytochemicals and nutraceuticals) .
