Research area(s): Structural Determination of Peptides and Small Molecules, Complex Mixtures Analysis and Intermolecular Interactions Analysis by NMR.

Current research focus:The development of research in my group is based on the use of the most modern NMR techniques for the identification, quantification and structural determination of bioactive substances. Projects in development: (1) Evaluation of metabolic composition of samples of American green tea (Camellia sinensis) in order to draw a profile of composition related to their areas of cultivation, (2) Identification and quantification of main metabolites and quantification of capsaicin in extracts of Capsicum chinense and Capsicum anum grown under different forms of cultivation, (3) Identification and quantification of artemisinin in Artemisia annua extracts grown under different types of light, (4) Identification of substances with acetylcholinesterase and topoisomerase inhibitory activity from plant extracts of the Atlantic Forest; (5) Structural characterization of sphingosine and sphingosine-1-phosphate in aqueous solution to study the interaction of these sphingolipids with MARCKS protein, (6) NMR analysis of the interaction between the peptide region of human plasminogen to Yersinia pestis plasmin and search for inhibitors of this interaction.
